Following a major global computer outage that disrupted several industries, US Senator Cynthia Lummis noted the stability of Bitcoin (BTC) on social media.

The outage, linked to cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, highlighted the vulnerabilities of interconnected systems and the urgent need for robust cybersecurity measures.

Lummis said in his statement on social media platform X:

“Do you know which currency is not affected by widespread cyber disruptions? Bitcoin. Vires in Numeris.”

Vires in Numeris is a Latin term meaning “power of numbers”. This expression has now become synonymous with Bitcoin.

The system outage on Friday caused connectivity problems in many industries, including financial services, medical offices and television broadcasters. Air travel has been particularly hard hit, with flight suspensions, delays and airport warnings issued to passengers.

The outage was caused by cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, which suffered a significant outage due to a recent technology update. Crowdstrike CEO George Kurtz announced that the incident was not a security breach or cyber attack and stated that the problem was detected, isolated and resolved.

Troy Hunt, the cybersecurity researcher behind the password breach monitoring service HaveIbeenpwned, called the ongoing global technology outage “the largest IT outage in history.”

If you look at the Bitcoin hash rate chart, Bitcoin has not been affected by this at all because most, if not all, Bitcoin miners use Linux-based frameworks. “It's funny because banks around the world are shutting down due to this server issue, but Bitcoin continues to generate hashes.”
