As new details emerge regarding the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the US, a noteworthy proposal has surfaced, particularly concerning maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a source close to the matter, Tehran may consider allowing ships free passage on the Omani side of the Strait of Hormuz without the risk of attacks, should an agreement be reached with Washington. This proposal is said to be among Iran’s negotiating offers.

The source stated that in this scenario, Iran would maintain control over its territorial waters in the Strait of Hormuz, while Oman would independently determine regulations on its side. However, there is no clarity on whether Iran will clear any mines it may have laid in the area, or whether passage will be permitted for all vessels, including those linked to Israel. Furthermore, it is added that the implementation of this proposal depends on the extent to which the US responds to Tehran’s demands, and that this is a prerequisite for progress on the Strait of Hormuz issue.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, in a statement regarding the negotiations, stated that the release of frozen assets was not seen as a “concession” by Iran. The spokesperson added that a final agreement had not yet been reached on this issue, among other topics.

On the US side, statements from the White House attracted attention. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters today that reports that the US had requested an extension of the ceasefire under the nuclear agreement with Iran were untrue. Leavitt stated that contacts regarding the second round of talks with Iran had been “productive” and that the new negotiations would most likely take place in Pakistan.
