Ethereum (ETH) developers have officially set the long-awaited Fusaka update for December 3rd.

The decision was made during the network's biweekly coordination meeting. The move marks the start of the countdown to Ethereum's second major hard fork in 2025.

The most notable innovation in the Fusaka upgrade is a system called PeerDAS. One of 12 enhancements included in the release, PeerDAS allows validators to verify only specific portions of data rather than entire “blobs” of data. This approach will significantly reduce bandwidth requirements, lowering costs for validators and layer-2 networks. As a result, Ethereum will become faster and less expensive for both user transactions and developer activity.

The decision was made official at the All Core Developers Consensus Layer (ACDC) meeting #168, just two days after the upgrade was implemented smoothly on Hoodi, the third and final testnet.

The Fusaka update will go live on the Ethereum mainnet at 9:49 PM on December 3rd, once the blockchain reaches slot level 13,164,544.
