Although Bitcoin experienced a major rally that took it to the $100,000 mark, altcoins failed to perform as expected.

While most investors are still at a loss in altcoins, CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju explained why the altcoin rally was delayed.

Explaining why the altcoin season was delayed from the X account, the CryptoQuant CEO pointed to institutional investors as the reason for this.

Stating that the Bitcoin rally was driven by institutional investors and ETF buyers, Ju argued that institutional investors' focus on Bitcoin delayed the expected altcoin season.

Because, according to the famous CEO, institutional investors and ETF buyers do not intend to convert their assets from Bitcoin to altcoins, compared to retail investors.

Stating that institutional investors can invest in large altcoins through ETFs and experience an increase, Ju said that small altcoins lack ETF support and are still forced on crypto exchange users.

CryptoQuant CEO said that for altcoins to reach new ATH, there needs to be fresh capital flowing into exchanges.

Ju stated that altcoins should adopt independent strategies to attract new capital instead of waiting for Bitcoin's upward momentum, and that the next wave of rise in Bitcoin is expected to come from institutional investors and ETF buyers.

“Why is the altcoin season delayed?

The nature of the capital flowing into Bitcoin has changed in the last cycle. The current Bitcoin rally is driven primarily by demand from institutional investors and spot ETFs.

Unlike crypto exchange users, institutional investors and ETF buyers do not intend to shift their assets from Bitcoin to altcoins.

For altcoins to reach a new ATH, they will need a significant influx of fresh capital into crypto exchanges. The altcoin market cap being below its previous ATH indicates a decrease in fresh liquidity from new exchange users.

If Bitcoin retail FOMO reignites, exchange user activity could increase, potentially setting the stage for an altcoin season.

However, Bitcoin's future growth is expected to come from ETFs, institutions, and perhaps governments rather than retail traders on crypto exchanges.

Therefore, altcoins should focus on developing independent strategies to attract new capital rather than relying on Bitcoin's momentum.”
