SEC Chairman Gary Gensler made new statements about Bitcoin (BTC).
Speaking on CNBC's Squawk Box program, Gensler said that Bitcoin was also included in the SEC's investor education program.
Gensler also underlined that Bitcoin is the most commonly used ransom payment method in ransomware crimes.
“Bitcoin has the largest market share in ransomware,” the SEC chairman said.
Gensler also said that “crypto is a space rife with fraud and manipulation. Look at all the bankruptcies at this point.”
Also speaking about BTC ETFs, SEC Chairman Gary Gensler said:
“ETFs have been approved, but we are neutral on merit. ETF approvals were in no way an endorsement of Bitcoin.
“It's just about how to buy and sell Bitcoin in these exchange-traded products.”
"This was not the first way you could buy, or express a risk in #Bitcoin," says SEC Chair @GaryGensler on $BTC ETFs. "We're merit-neutral. This was not in any way an approval of Bitcoin. That existed. It's just how to trade it in these exchange-traded products." pic.twitter.com/Sgp5hGX4Qn
