The Twitter account of former BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes, known for his predictions about Bitcoin, has apparently fallen into the hands of fraudsters.

In an unconventional post from Hayes' Twitter account, a meme token named "L" was introduced. A fake-looking link to this token, which was most likely created by hackers to steal the assets of cryptocurrency investors, was also shared.

Hayes' post claimed that this so-called meme token will be the "new SHIB". In addition, the photo of Elon Musk was used in the promotional image of the fraudulent token.

In the post made by the scammers who took over Hayes' account, it was claimed that the L token in question would distribute airdrops in proportion to the value of the users' Twitter accounts.

However, Arthur Hayes, one of the controversial names in the cryptocurrency world, is also known for frequently trading worthless meme tokens.

Hayes was accused in 2020 of violating the Bank Secrecy Act, which requires financial institutions to have anti-money laundering programs and verify the identities of their customers. He pleaded guilty in February 2022 and was sentenced to two years of probation on May 20, 2022.

He also agreed to pay a $10 million fine and spend the first six months of his probation under house arrest. BitMEX also agreed to pay $100 million to settle legal allegations that it allowed years of illegal transactions and violated anti-money laundering rules.
