Galaxy Digital, one of the giants in the cryptocurrency investment world, is preparing to launch a $100 million fund aimed at investing in early-stage crypto companies.
The fund, called Galaxy Ventures Fund I, LP, is part of Galaxy's venture capital franchise, which will be integrated into its asset management business in 2023. The fund aims to invest in up to 30 startups over the next three years, with initial investments starting from $1 million. The focus will be on startups developing financial applications, software infrastructure and protocols in the crypto space.
Galaxy Digital has a strong history in crypto investing. The company has invested $200 million in more than 100 projects in the last six years. While Galaxy's Interactive team has raised outside capital before, this is a first for the venture team.
The new fund is expected to “continue the success of proprietary balance sheet investments through a direct, institutional-grade fund,” according to a shared investor email.
Paradigm, another investment company, recently announced its plan to create a cryptocurrency fund of $750 to $850 million.
